Her mind is racing with thoughts of how the emergency room has been crazy tonight. It must be a full moon because this entire day has been crazy. Sam is being so secretive. We promised to be open and honest with each other, and for the past few months, things have been great. Lately, he has been very distant and secretive.
A nurse says, "Dr. Sanchez, we need you in exam room three please." Lydia walks swiftly with the nurse to get filled in on the patient in room three. The nurse says, “The patient is a thirty-year-old female. "Dr. Sanchez, this is Maria Ramirez. She was in a car accident a few months ago that resulted in a broken left hip." Lydia says, "Hello Ms. Ramirez, may I take a look at your hip?" Maria exclaimed, “It hurts so bad, the pain is radiating down my entire leg, it feels like sharp needles stabbing me. Can you please help me?" Lydia looks at her and says, “We will take good care of you, Ms. Ramirez." Maria looked at her again and whispered, "Lydia, is that you?" Lydia says, "I will give you something for the pain." Lydia injects an exorbitant amount of pain medication, to keep Maria from talking in front of the nurse.
Lydia goes to the doctors' lounge and just about throws up. She takes in a couple of deep breaths and tries to pull herself together. As she is leaving the doctors' lounge, she sees Maria's father and brother enter her exam room. Lydia breaks out into a sweat and now knows there is no way out of acknowledging them and facing her past. She puts her hands over her face and cries.
I can't wait for the next book!
